FLASHBACK—Mankhamba performs at Chingalire during Ethno Music Camp

Chingalire Homestay, which is led by veteran musician Ben Michael Mankhamba, who is also Village Head Chingalire, will for the first time exhibit outside the country at World Travel Market (WTM) London Trade Fair in the United Kingdom.

The fair starts on November 6 and ends on November 8 2023.

Mankhamba, who is expected to leave the country Friday alongside officials from the Department of Tourism, confirmed the development Wednesday.

“Chingalire Homestay is lucky to have been selected to participate at this huge platform. We have been sponsored by GIZ,” he said.

Mankhamba said through the platform, they will be able to showcase what they do at Chingalire Homestay and also sell Malawi.

“As Chingalire Homestay, we have been hosting tourists showcasing traditional dances, food and several other things that are part of Malawi’s culture. So, showing this in London is something special. Much as we will be showcasing what Chingalire Homestay is all about, we will also be showing the beauty of Malawi,” he said.

Chingalire Homestay, which also has a cultural troupe that aims at promoting and preserving culture through traditional dances, has in recent times hosted concerts featuring some of the well-known artists in the country such as Black Missionaries and Skeffa Chimoto.

The centre early this year also hosted the Ethno Music Camp and Pakhonde Festival led by Music Crossroads Malawi.

According to available information, WTM London is home to the world’s travel trade—the most influential travel and tourism event globally.

The event brings together the international leisure travel community; providing inspiration, education, sourcing, and benchmarking to travel professionals while providing exhibitors a place to do business and showcase their services to the international press.

WTM London represents global travel consumers of over 5,000 destinations and brands.

In its 2023 edition, the exhibition seeks to provide a glimpse into what the global travel industry will look like in five years.

At WTM London 2023, visitors and participants are also expected to learn from industry leaders and entrepreneurs addressing various sectors like sports travel, music travel and well-being.
