Super League clubs have asked for additional subventions to fulfil fixtures for some competitions.
The clubs made the proposal at a meeting with Super League of Malawi (Sulom) Executive Committee members at Sunbird Lilongwe Hotel on Saturday.
According to Sulom President Fleetwood Haiya, the clubs complained about the number of competitions incorporated in this year’s domestic football calendar.
“The teams budgeted for few engagements, excluding the Castel Challenge Cup. The teams feel that they will be stretched if they will not get any additional subvention for them to fulfil the fixtures. We have taken their concerns and will engage the relevant authorities to serve the best interest of the clubs,” Haiya said.
Following the introduction of Castel Challenge Cup this year, the domestic football calendar has the Airtel Top 8, FDH Bank Cup and the TNM Super League.

Again, the participation of FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in the Caf Champions League means the football calendar has been adjusted.
The 2023 football calendar is expected to end on December 31.
Chitipa United General Secretary Duma Ng’oma said the clubs are already struggling financially.
“We do not have enough resources to compete in all competitions. We really need subventions from Fam to help us,” he said.

At the meeting, Sulom accepted the clubs’ proposal to modify fixtures for the second round so that teams can play midweek matches to avoid fixture congestion.
However, Sulom maintained that there will be a space of 72 hours between the matches to give players ample time to rest.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Competitions and Communications Director Gomezgani Zakazaka was not readily available for his comment yesterday.
But sports analyst Parry Chinyama said the teams deserve to get subventions for all competitions.
“I agree with the teams. They need subvention to cushion them,” Chinyama said.
Clubs get subventions from TNM and Sulom for participating in the TNM Super League.
Sulom has already paid the second tranche of the K7 million subvention to all the clubs.
Each club has already received K4.5 million.
Fam introduced the K100 million annual grant to Sulom before the start of the season.
