Musicians Lulu and Driemo over the weekend had openings, performing in Uganda and South Africa, respectively.
Lulu, who has just released a new song titled ‘Okongola’, featuring Gwamba, performed at the Kirya Live 2023 in Uganda on Friday for the first time.
“It was another special moment for me as I reached out to a different audience. This shows progress and I have always said that we need these opportunities,” the guitarist and producer, who in May performed in United States of America, said.
The artist, who shared the stage with acts such as Maurice Kirya, performed with a three-piece band during the show that attracted a huge audience.
“The other members were from Uganda and what happened is that they rehearsed my songs for weeks then I joined them for two days,” he said.

Lulu then dared fellow artists to seriously work on their craft before going for performances outside the country.
“People expect that we give them good music no matter the sound. There is heavy wind out there that needs balance; otherwise, we have to keep pushing,” the ‘Kumalembe’ maker, who returned on Sunday, said.
Driemo also had his stake of spoils in South Africa, where he held three gigs as part of his Mzaliwa album launch tour which started at Nyanyazi on Friday before dating Maitland Town Hall in Cape Town the following day, with the last act at Culture Inn where he was backed by The Peace Band.
“It is always good to perform to a different audience. The three shows gave Driemo an opportunity to reach out to the people with his Mzaliwa album,” Driemo’s manager Van Ngongo said.
