KAIYATSA— Guarantee that the next DG will be free
SHARE

By Pemphero Malimba:

The process of shortlisting candidates to undergo interviews for the position of Anti- Corruption Bureau (ACB) director general (DG) is yet to be done as it awaits the formulation of a committee to oversee the process, The Daily Times has learned.

In December last year, the government, through the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, advertised the job in local newspapers, where it indicated that applicants had up to January 6, 2026 to submit their applications.

Following the closure of the application period, the ministry revealed that it had received at least 50 applications and that the shortlisting process would soon take place.

NAMANGALE—The document is marked

The ministry’s spokesperson Frank Namangale told The Daily Times Wednesday that the shortlisting process would commence soon.

“Internal processes have been underway and the Honourable Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs [Charles Mhango] will soon constitute a committee to carry out the shortlisting process,” Namangale said.

He said the same committee would also be responsible for conducting the interviews.

He, however, did not specify the time the recruitment process would be concluded.

The ACB DG job fell vacant in May 2024 after the expiry of a working contract of former DG Martha Chizuma.

Earlier, National Anti- Corruption Alliance Chairperson Michael Kaiyatsa said the organisation expected the ministry to carry out a transparent and merit-based recruitment process.

“We also call for a process that is open, competitive and free from political influence,” Kaiyatsa said.

“Considering what happened to the previous DG, we expect the appointment authorities to guarantee that the next DG will be free from political interference both during recruitment and while executing their mandate,” he said.
