Copyright Society of Malawi (Cosoma) has published a book titled Bambo Gama ndi Bungwe la Cosoma which is aimed at helping access valuable knowledge about copyright and intellectual property rights.
The copyright body has since piloted a distribution demonstration of the book to schools through Lilongwe LEA.
Cosoma Executive Director Dora Makwinja said in an interview that the public will also have access to valuable knowledge about copyright and intellectual property rights.
“By nurturing an understanding of these concepts, we empower our young learners to respect and protect the creative work of others. This, in turn, fosters a culture of innovation and creativity among Malawi’s future generations,” Makwinja said.

“This knowledge is essential for cultivating an environment that encourages respect for creative works and supports the growth of industries that rely on copyright. Ultimately, this project contributes to a more vibrant and inclusive creative sector, all while safeguarding the rights of creators.”
The book has been published by Sunrise Publications using the Copyright Fund which Makwinja said is authentication to the Copyright Fund’s dedication to fostering an environment that values and protects intellectual property.
The executive director commended the Ministry of Education for its endorsement and unwavering dedication to intellectual property rights.
“By cultivating an understanding of copyright and intellectual property rights, this project drives the growth and development of Malawi’s creative industries while safeguarding the rights of creators,” Makwinja said.
