Living Word Evangelistic Church Prophet, David Mbewe, has registered Liberation for Economic Freedom Party with a call to Malawians to embrace new ideas
Accompanied by supporters, Mbewe first collected a certificate of registration at the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties in Blantyre Central Business District before heading to The Times Group offices along Scott Road, Ginnery Corner, where he addressed followers.
Speaking at the event, Mbewe said the party has been registered to liberate Malawians from political bondage.
“We are here for Malawians, who were promised Canaan but never saw it. We are here for Malawians who were promised Singapore but [that] remains a dream. We are here for Malawians who were told that they would be eating three times a day but are wallowing in poverty. We promise you servant leadership and that will only be achieved if we are voted into power,” he said.

Mbewe said he would continue with his clerical duties, adding that they would soon go on the campaign trail to sell the party to people across the country.
“We have membership across the country and our party will accommodate everyone because we are not regionalistic,” he said.
Meanwhile, political analyst Victor Chipofya has said new parties could be taking advantage of the introduction of the 50+1 system.
“Some of these parties are formed so that they may get into government through coalitions. As you know, with the 50+1 electoral system in place, small parties become relevant in the event of a re-run. As such, these parties might be looking for that opportunity,” Chipofya said.
