Doctors under the Association of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Malawi (AOGM) have appealed to women to get screened for cervical cancer.
One of AOGM members, Dr Geoffrey Kachepa, said this on Saturday at Kunenekude Health Centre in Mwanza District, where health workers screened women and girls.
“Cervical cancer screening will help us pick the cancer at early stages,” he said.
AOGM also trained clinicians at Kunenekude Health Centre.
The activity was organised with support from Malawi Healthcare Support UK (Mahecas UK).

The organisation’s country coordinator Lawrence Gogodus said they decided to provide the support considering that many women and girls, especially those in rural areas, find it difficult to get tested.
One of the women who got tested, Elube Kathumba, said it was difficult to go the Mwanza District Hospital for screening, citing transportation challenges.
Over 40 women and girls were tested.
