The eagle is such a cunning bird as, with its vision, it sees from afar and it is through this vision, that it is able to among others, catch fish.
It is because of the eagles’ traits that a musical outfit in Salima ended up fashioning its name from the bird, with the dream of serving out ‘good’ music.
Resident at Sigelege Beach Resort, Eagles Band has made itself a name at the resort where it entertains guests almost every day with reposes on Monday and Tuesday, when they dish out covers of both local and international acts.
There are even instants where guests have a chance to select songs of their choice and the band performs them and, at times, guests are also given the microphone to perform.
With the country celebrating Tourism Month, whose climax is today, the band has been one of the key features in terms of attraction at the resort, where it offers all-out entertainment.
The group’s entertainment coordinator Kondwani Kalukusha said recently that they were eyeing to grow as a band.
“Through the music we offer, we make sure that guests get good memories of Salima apart from enjoying the best of Sigelege and the fresh waters of Lake Malawi,” Kalukusha, a graduate of Music Crossroads Academy in Lilongwe, said.
He revealed that the band started in 2021 and that members of the group were fully employed.
“We have our own songs but we perform covers because guests ask us to. We perform here mostly. We do music and then receive a salary,” Kalukusha said.
Vocalist Bridget Njala, who is also a worship leader of the praise team at her church, describes talent as not for free and hails Sigelege for employing them, paying them at the end of the month.
“It is rare for places to employ musicians and give them a salary at the end of the month but Sigelege does that. This also motivates us to keep bringing quality to our music,” Njala said.
