Georgian Women Football League club Lanchkhuti has terminated the contract for Malawi Women’s National Football Team striker Sabina Thom due to visa hitches.
The Scorchers striker signed a two-year contract with the club in March this year.
Despite signing a contract, Thom did not join the club as she was waiting for her work permit.
In an interview Friday, MDF Lionesses General Secretary Arnold Nizzah Jere confirmed yesterday that the Georgian club decided to terminate the deal after failing to secure her visa.
“At first, she was sent back to the airport in Georgia after the online visa had some problems. When she returned home, she applied for another visa but it was rejected as some information and documents were missing,” Jere said.

Thom signed a deal with Lanchkhuti after leaving Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) giants TP Mazembe early this year.
Following the cancellation of the deal, Thom has re-joined Lionesses.
Jere said Thom had other offers from teams in Africa and Europe.
“Sabina is a good player so several teams expressed interest to sign her. We will see what transpires next,” Jere said.

Thom said she was determined to move on.
“Everything happens for a reason. I am not disappointed with what has happened. I have to move on and focus on the future,” Thom said.
Thom was hoping to return to Europe following her stint with Swedish side Kvarnsvedens IK from 2017 to 2019.
Then, she returned home and joined Tanzanian side Simba Sporting Club.
But she returned home after six months and joined the military.
She signed for Mazembe on a two-and-half year contract in June 2023 but she terminated the contract early this year.
Thom was part of the Scorchers squad that won the 2023 Cosafa Women’s Championship following a 2-1 victory over Zambia at Lucas Moripe Stadium in South Africa.
Last month, she was with the Scorchers as they lost 4-2 and 3-1 to Morocco and Ghana, respectively in international friendly matches.
Currently, Malawi has four recognised players in Europe namely France-based duo of Tabitha Chawinga (Olympique Lyonnais), Rose Kabzere (Montpellier), Vanessa Chikupira and Bernadette Mkandawire (both Biik-Kazygurt FC).
