The governing Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has asked farmers to grow more tobacco this year, saying prices will be better than those offered during the 2022-23 growing season.
MCP director of youth Richard Chimwendo Banda said this on Sunday at a political rally the party organised in Kasungu District.
“I can assure you that farmers that have cultivated tobacco will make profits. As you are aware, farmers were offered good prices in 2023 and, likewise, they should expect even better prices this season.
“This applies to all other cash crops that people will be selling. We will make sure that we have good prices and that farmers are not complaining,” Chimwendo Banda said.

MCP Central Region chairperson Patrick Zebron Chilondola said people should expect more from the governing party.
“We have good plans for this country, plans that will see everyone enjoying their citizenship. As we are speaking, many people have already benefitted from the Affordable Inputs Programme. We have good roads under construction and many other things are happening in the country,” Chilondola said.
