Football Association of Malawi (Fam) President Fleetwood Haiya has reiterated the need to establish a National Division League to improve football standards in the country.
Haiya made the remarks in Machinga District on Sunday during the launch of Thumbs Up Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) Premier Division.
According to Haiya, the development will help curb match fixing and enhance competitiveness among teams in the league.
“As we ponder about the change, we have instituted a League Development Committee (LDC) where we want to abolish the cluster system to a marathon league. This will start at district, regional and national level before a team plays in the Super League,” he said.

Meanwhile, SRFA Chairperson Raphael Humba has said revamping the league format is a welcome development and good for the game.
“We expect tough competition this year. We, as an association, are happy with the new format which Fam wants to introduce,” Humba said.
During the launch, Ntaja FC started the campaign brightly, beating Red Lions 3-2.
