For old times sake, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers legends will renew their rivalry when they clash in a fundraising match at Kamuzu Stadium on March 4.
The game’s interim organising committee chairperson Kevin Moyo said the primary objective of the match is to provide assistance and support to former players and officials who may be facing post-retirement challenges.
“This Blantyre derby is not just about football; it is a celebration of the sport’s legacy and a collective effort to support those who have contributed immensely to the game,” Moyo said.
Soccer legends from both teams, including Thom Milanzi, George Sangala, Kuluwa Ngwira, Luis Minjale, Simplex Nthala, Mzee Josamu, Ojukwu Malunga, Rahim Ishmael, Safarao Pompi, Bob Mpinganjira, Isaac Msuku and James Chilapondwa, addressed the media in Blantyre, where they highlighted the committee’s noble cause.

Moyo said, additionally, a fundraising social tournament featuring corporate and social football teams is scheduled for February 24 and 25 at Kamuzu Stadium.
“We anticipate hosting at least 20 to 30 social teams, with each team paying K80,000 registration fee,” Moyo said.
He said the sad story of Flames legend Jack Chamangwana, who struggled to secure funds during his illness, serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by former players.
Chamangwana’s illustrious career not only marked significant milestones for Malawian football but also solidified his status as a legendary captain of the Flames.

“If a figure of Chamangwana’s stature endured such hardships, what lies ahead for the rest of us?” Moyo asked.
Bob Mpinganjira, former Wanderers goal-scoring machine, emphasised that the game would retain the rivalry spirit of old legends in support of their fellow players.
Former Bullets defence pillar Mzee Josamu appealed to football fans to witness the soccer icons returning to the field.
“Come and watch the best in the game, who hung up their soccer boots, returning to the field for a noble cause,” Josamu said.
The Wanderers legends will be coached by Yasin Osman while Kinnah Phiri will lead the Bullets team.
