FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Silver Strikers have applauded their players for outstanding performance during Saturday’s NBS Bank Charity Shield match at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
Bullets retained the shield for the seventh successive time after beating Silver Strikers 7-6 on post-match penalties following a goalless stalemate in regulation time.
The People’s Team assistant coach Heston Munthali, speaking on behalf of head coach Kalitso Pasuwa, hailed the players for the win.
“Let me thank the boys for the win; we have retained the Shield for the seventh time. It was not an easy match and we knew that our friends would come very hard on us,” the former Flames and Bullets striker said.
However, Munthali said they would not get complacent following the win as the team needs to gel after signing new players.

“We have won but we still have a lot of work to do to get the best out of the boys.
“At Bullets, we trust each other and every player donning this jersey gives it all to cement his place in the line-up, so this competition is healthy for the team,” Munthali said.
On his part, Silver Coach Peter Mponda said his charges were set for the new season despite suffering a loss to Bullets.
“It was a very good game and the boys gave a good performance, which is very encouraging. We are impressed with what they have shown us after this game. I think we are ready, even if you give us a game tomorrow we will be ready to play,” the former Flames skipper said.

It was an entertaining attacking game which Silver slightly dominated but the Central Bankers failed to convert their chances into goals.
During the shootout, Bullets scored through Precious Phiri, Blessings Mpokera, Collins Mujuru, Ephraim Kondowe, Hassan Kajoke and Nickson Nyasulu but Precious Sambani and fellow substitute Ernest Petro missed.
On the part of Silver, Emmanuel Muyira, Maxwell Paipi, Binwell Katinji, MacDonald Lameck and Innocent Shema scored their penalties but Gift Chunga, Nyoni and Kamanga missed.
