Sorrow has gripped the football fraternity following the death of former Malawi National Football Team goalkeeper Charles Swini.
Swini died at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe Tuesday after suffering from kidney complications.
His wife Judith confirmed the death but referred us to his colleague and Kasungu North Parliamentarian Mike Bango for details.
Bango said the burial ceremony will take place Thursday at Lozi Trading Centre in Nkhotakota district.
“His body will be taken tomorrow [Wednesday] to his home village in Nkhotakota,” Bango said.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) joined footballers and teams in paying their tribute to Swini who was one of the best goalkeepers in the country.
“We would like to extend to the family of Swini our heartfelt condolences,” Fam General Secretary Alfred Gunda said.
The late Swini played for local football clubs including Escom United, Civil Service Club and Silver Strikers and UD Songo in Mozambique.
The late Swini was born on February 28 in 1985. He is survived by a wife and three children.
