Malawi’s Ambassador to Mozambique Wezi Moyo has disclosed that a vessel carrying a government-to-government (G2G) fuel consignment, especially diesel, from the Middle East is expected to dock at Nacala Port this Saturday.
Moyo made the announcement during a visit to Nacala and Nacala Rail Ports by a delegation from the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (Mera) on Monday.
The latest shipment, which is expected to arrive in Mozambique this weekend, will further boost the country’s fuel reserves.
“As soon as the ship arrives here at the port, we will facilitate the fast and cost-effective delivery through rail of the diesel so that it reaches Malawi on time,” she said.
She further said Nacala Port remained the most affordable and efficient route for Malawi in the transportation of fuel, fertiliser and export commodities.

According to Moyo, plans are in motion for Malawi to ease logistics and centralise the handling of all G2G consignments passing through the port.
Speaking during the same visit, Mera Board Chairperson Charles Kambauwa welcomed the development, saying G2G fuel deals would enhance fuel availability in the country.
“Mera is very grateful to the government, through the Ministry of Energy and Ministry of Justice, among other agencies, for facilitating these deals. The new fuel procurement system will bring the much-needed relief and stabilise the fuel situation in Malawi,” said Kambauwa.
Meanwhile, Director of the Mozambican Port, Filomena Bene, has assured Malawi of continued cooperation, especially in expediting customs clearance processes.

“We are ready to assist.
“However, I urge the Government of Malawi to fast-track the development of its dry port here for smooth facilitation of goods,” she said.
Just last week, Malawi received another consignment of fuel from the Middle East through a similar G2G arrangement, which was delivered via Tanga Port in Tanzania.
