On-and-off Flames attacking midfielder Gerald Phiri Junior is trying his luck at DStv Premiership side Moroka Swallows with the hope of securing a deal.
The talented attacker is hunting for a new club after terminating the contract with Sudanese giants Al Hilal on mutual consent.
But the Malawian has taken his club hunting to Swallows, which could see him reunite with compatriot Frank Gabadinho Mhango.
Phiri and Mhango played together at Brave Warriors in the early days of their careers.
His manager Paul Mitchel of Siyavuma Sports Group Tuesday confirmed that Phiri is training with Swallows.
“He is training with Swallows at the moment,” Mitchel said.
At Hilal, he made his Caf Champions League debut against Mamelodi Sundowns in February last year.
Sports analyst Parry Chinyama said Phiri has a chance to clinch a deal at Swallows.
“It is good for him to keep fit. He is still a good player and he has a lot to offer to any club as well as the national team,’’ Chinyama said.
The 1.8 metres tall midfielder has played for several teams in South Africa.
Before joining Hilal in Sudan, he was playing for Baroka FC. He also had stints with Bidvest Wits, Platinum FC and Township Rollers in Botswana.
During the 2019 Cosafa Cup, he was voted as Player of the Tournament, having scored three goals and registered three assists in five matches.
