The country’s giants avoided each other in the Castel Challenge Cup round-of-16 following a draw conducted Thursday at Football Association of Malawi (Fam)’s Mpira Village in Blantyre.
The draw saw FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, Silver Strikers, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Chitipa United being seeded because of their current top four positions in the TNM Super League.
Fam Chief Executive Officer Alfred Gunda said the cup has reached an exciting stage.
“We are going into the real battles now. This is a national cup and having teams from the regions speaks highly of its competitiveness,” Gunda said.
Castel Malawi Head of Corporate Marketing and Communications Lavern Chitakata said the manner in which Fam has ran the competition is quite overwhelming.

“We are amazed with the smooth administration of the competition. Since the round-of-64 kicked off, we have witnessed exciting matches, especially from the Mangochi team called Lipulumundu that gave Bullets tough time. This is what we want as a brand. So we are just hoping that round-of-16 matches will be very competitive as well,” Chitakata said.
The matches are set to kick off next weekend.
Results of the draw are as follows:
