Gold Mountain Media Group, led by veteran producer Tapps Bandawe, on Friday signed a deal with Universal Music Group in South Africa which is expected to push the rollers for the country’s music industry.
Tapps, who recently also announced that he was the manager of Makasu Band which used to have big names in the past years including the late Bright Livewire Nkhata, was over the moon with the deal that, he indicated, he has been pursuing for years.
Writing on his social media page, Tapps said: “This week was a powerful one. I put pen to paper to seal the biggest ever deal in Malawian music as I signed a deal with the largest music company in the world Universal Music Group”.
The veteran producer, who has worked with several musicians in the country, said following this mission, Malawian artists will get abundant opportunities to take “our music to the world with no limits”.
He boasted that no other Southern African country has this deal.

“As Gold Mountain Media Group we are now like an imprint of Universal Music Group and there so much that will benefit the music industry and creative sector as a whole. Universal Music Group will give us all the support and this also includes engaging artists in workshops to learn different issues for their music growth such as song writing and video production,” he said.
Tapps said Universal Music Group has a huge network and catalogue and that their link will also accord them a chance to have songs from Malawi get access to their platforms.
“We are also looking at collaborations where we can have access to any artists that is on their roaster. We are reviving old classics; we are looking at redoing greatest songs by artists such as Soldier Lucius Banda. This is an opportunity for our works to generate money,” he said.
Universal Music Group was not readily available for a comment on Sunday.
