Goodwin Chinseu produced a stunning finale on Sunday, sinking a decisive birdie on the final hole to fend off fierce competition from John-Gift Mwakhwawa and capture the inaugural Blantyre Sports Club (BSC) Winter Tour Championship title in style.
The tournament, which attracted some of Malawi’s finest golfing talents, turned into a gripping showdown between Chinseu and Mwakhwawa, who remained neck-and-neck throughout the three-day event.
But it was Chinseu’s composed brilliance and precise putting under pressure that proved the difference, as his final birdie, the third of the tournament, sealed a two-stroke victory.
“It was tight the whole way. Mwakhwawa was my playing partner and he was hitting his drivers really well, very long off the tee,” he said.
