Football Association of Malawi (Fam) President Fleetwood Haiya has said Malawi National Football Team’s performance has been a major setback to his transforming the game agenda in the first 12 months of his administration.
Haiya made the remarks during the commissioning of Luwinga Inclusive Academy in Mzuzu on Friday.
His comments also come as he clocks one year in office as Fam president tomorrow.
He said the country has failed to produce quality players for many years due to the absence of well-structured academies.
“The performance of the Flames has been a missing link in our transformation agenda. Malawi has failed to achieve international success at all levels due to lack of quality players because of a poor player development programme in the absence of schools of excellence,” Haiya said.
Furthermore, he said it was sad that Malawi has failed to export players to Europe.
“As a country, Malawi is perhaps the only nation in the region which has no big football stars in the big leagues in Europe, America, the Middle East and Asia and even Africa,” he said.
The Flames were a pale shadow of themselves in the last 12 months having registered seven losses, two wins and one draw in all competitions. In his blueprint titled ‘Transforming the Game’, Haiya has efforts against Creck this afternoon.
“We will play to win the match. We know that we need maximum points to stay in the league,” Kajawa said.
Straight from their 2-0 victory over Moyale Barracks, Chitipa Coach Christopher Nyambose will hope to get another positive result.
“We expect a tough match but we are confident of getting a victory,” Nyambose said.
Meanwhile, Silver will be officially crowned champions for the first time in 11 years in front of their home crowd this afternoon.
The setting is Silver Stadium as they host Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos. Surely, this is Silver finest hour having waited for so long to reach the Promised Land.
There is nothing to stop them from celebrating having sealed the title with two matches to spare.
Elsewhere, second-placed Wanderers will face Moyale Barracks at Mzuzu Stadium whereas Bullets will host Kamuzu Barracks at Kamuzu Stadium.
Wanderers have already secured runners-up spot and they will get a cool K40 million whereas Bullets will get K30 million for the third slot.
