The stakes are high in the 2026 Bravehearts International Basketball Challenge (BIBC) after sponsors G.Y Imports and Exports hiked prize money for this year’s edition.
The tournament is scheduled for Africa Bible College (ABC) Blue Gym in Lilongwe from tomorrow (Thursday) to Saturday.
Speaking during the press briefing in Lilongwe Tuesday, Bravehearts Organisation president Daudi Hussein said the champions in each category will pocket $5000 (about K8.7 million), up from $2500.
Hussein said the runnersup in each category will pocket $2000 (about K3.5 million). He said since the inception of the tournament in 2017, the tournament has grown to a bigger event on the continent.
“The prize money raises a lot of competition among the teams. We have also created a good platform where most of the big teams that participate in other big tournaments are coming to take part,” Hussein said.

“This tournament creates an opportunity for the teams to prepare for the Africa Basketball League which shows that this is not an ordinary tournament.”
The tournament will attract teams from hosts Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
In the men’s category, Group A comprises hosts Bravehearts, Matero Magic (Zambia), Hurricanes (Malawi), Sulocoes Rurais (Mozambique) whereas Group B comprises Mbare Bulls from Zimbabwe, Matero Warriors from Zambia, FDH Bricks (Malawi) and Munali Suns from Zambia.
Bravehearts men captain Madalitso Kadiwa said they were geared for the tournament.
