Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority (Macra) Director of Legal Services Thokozani Chimbe has stressed the need to protect consumers of ICT products and services from hazardous and unfair trading practices.
Chimbe made the remarks in Lilongwe on Tuesday at the commemoration of the World Consumers Rights day.
She said as one way of promoting the rights of ICT consumers, Macra is currently reviewing the Electronic Transactions and Cyber Security Act to enhance protection of consumers from cyber offences.
“We are in the process of procuring a system called Central Equipment Identity Register to assist in combating mobile fraud. These are all efforts to ensure that the rights of consumers are respected and protected against any form of market abuses and social injustices,” Chimbe said.
