A call has been made for enhanced collaboration between private sector players and the government for sustainable growth.
This was said at the weekend during the Business Leaders’ Summit organised by the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) in Mangochi District.
The indaba brought together private sector players, government officials and other stakeholders to deliberate strategies for economic growth.

MCCCI President Wisely Phiri said amid prevailing economic challenges, the industry maintains the drive for growth.
British High Commissioner to Malawi Fiona Ritchie pointed to specific sectors with growth potential, particularly energy and mining, urging the private sector to remain committed despite the difficult business environment.
“Malawi is not currently an easy place to do business, but the opportunities are really there. Continue to have faith, continue to grow your businesses, and to really believe in the future for Malawi,” Ritchie said.
Keynote speaker Professor Bonang Francis Mohale stressed the importance of government-business collaboration rather than confrontation.
He emphasized the importance of role clarity between government, business, labour, and civil society, likening it to the defined roles within corporate structures.
The summit highlighted that while significant challenges remain for Malawi’s business environment; proactive private sector leadership working in harmony with the government could unlock the country’s economic potential.
