International Tennis Federation (ITF) Development Officer for Southern Africa Tapiwa Masunga has arrived in the country to assess strides which Lawn Tennis Association of Malawi (LTAM) has made.
Masunga arrived in the country through Chileka International Airport in Blantyre on Sunday ahead of her scheduled meetings with LTAM and Malawi National Council of Sports officials.
“I am here [Malawi] to meet with LTAM officials so that I should establish the strides it has made. I will achieve this through site visits, coaches’ workshops and interaction with other stakeholders such as the Malawi National Council of Sports.
“I will check how Malawi is progressing, in terms of achieving the ITF development pillars, which include coaching/ education, facility development, player programmes, participation in ITF activities and administration,” Masunga said.
The ITF Development Officer said she planned to persuade the authorities to speed up the opening of the new tennis facilities at the Griffin Saenda Sports Complex in Lilongwe.

Masunga said the visit would help her design a plan to integrate Malawi tennis in their digitalisation strategy from next year to 2028.
Meanwhile, LTAM President Tawonga Mtegha has said Musunga’s visit is timely.
“This is a great opportunity for the development of Malawi tennis because she will know where we stand and our needs,” Mtegha said.
