Germany-based hip-hop artist JMC Skyred has challenged musicians in the country to use their music to spread positive social and political messages.
“Music is very strong and has a direct impact on a lot of peoples’ lives; if used wrongly, we can mislead the whole generation.”
The rapper, who is actively involved in social causes, owns an aid organisation called Shorten the Distance which aims at improving the living conditions of children and young people in Malawi.
“We provide online courses that help young people to make informed decisions and focus on their future goals,” JMC, who is based in Berlin, said.
He said artists have a huge voice and that through their music, they can reach out to the masses with the positive messages of mindset change and love.

Originally raised in Blanytre, JMC also called upon youths to focus on their future and refuse to be used as tools for violence.
He said although it is not easy due to daily struggles and other circumstances, young people should still have positive aspirations and keep dreaming.
“Young people are vulnerable because of their daily struggles and politicians often take advantage of this and use them to incite violence,” the artist said.
In his recent song titled ‘Distance’, which features Leslie and Henry Czar and was produced by DJ Brown, the artist encourages the young generation to believe even if their ambitions seem far-fetched.

“Let’s keep dreaming and believing in love; love shortens the distance and, with love we can conquer our dreams,” he says in the song.
