Southern Region Football Association Premier Division champions Fomo got an encouraging result ahead of their TNM Super League debut when they defeated a team of retired footballers playing under the banner of JK Productions.
Fomo beat the legends 6-2 at Mulanje Park Stadium on Saturday but, in an earlier friendly match, JK Productions defeated Fomo Reserve 3-2.
Football Association of Malawi President Fleetwood Haiya and his Super League of Malawi counterpart Gilbert Mittawa watched the friendlies.
Fomo Coach Gilbert Chirwa, who is also a member of JK Productions, did not get carried away with the result.
“The result does not matter even though it can help the players gain confidence and inculcate a winning culture in them. My priority was on coordination and cohesion of the team.

“I wanted to analyse how we are attacking and defending, both on and off the ball. I have seen where we need to work on,” Chirwa said.
During the match, Fomo featured twins Oscar and Duncan Mangwaya, who tormented the visitors’ defence of Allan Kamanga, Harry Nyirenda, Elvis Kafoteka and Chikumbutso ‘Jet Li’ Kanyenda.
Ironically, the elder twin, Duncan, provided three assists to inspire his younger brother Oscar to score a hat-trick.
Sheriff Maida scored a brace while Sly Anthony scored once as Fomo registered victory.

Harvey Mkacha and Joseph Kamwendo scored for JK Productions.
JK Productions Vice Board Chairperson Justin Saidi said they honoured an invitation.
“We have several programmes we need to undertake, including playing international matches. However, when we got an invitation from Fomo, we felt honoured because they indicated that they wanted their players to be motivated by our retired Flames players,” he said.
During the match, legends such as Kinnah Phiri, Peterkins Kaira, Mabvuto Lungu, Ojukwu Malunga, Lovemore Fazili and Leo Mpulula offered technical support while the likes of Simeon Kapuza, Andrew Chikhosi, Fischer Kondowe, Gastin Simkonda and Panganeni Ndovie were in action.
