Journalist Harold Kapindu, who trades as K-Bonnie in the music industry, has penned a book that documents the country’s urban culture.
The book titled Outside Lukin’ In – A Guide to Malawi Urban Culture, highlights the history of urban music, fashion, film, festivals, radio and social media.
“I decided to write this book in a bid to avoid distortion of facts through word of mouth. History is well kept in literature,” he said.
He said the book targets Z generation and millennials hence the informal writing style and language.
For example, he said, “Looking” is written as “Lukin’” in the book, stressing that he has done so to attract the attention of the youth.
He further added that the book has been written to enlighten people on modern digital marketing and promotion tools in as far as arts and entertainment was concerned.
The book which has eight chapters will be released Friday.
Kapindu is an award winning journalist and rapper with vast knowledge in online, social media, print and broadcasting.
A columnist, who has contributed articles in several media outlets including Nation Publications Limited, Kapindu has also worked with institutions such as Star Radio, Malawi News Agency, Timveni Child and Youth Media Organisation and Dziko FM.
