Malawi National Netball Team shooter Joyce Mvula underlined her class when she scooped two awards at Leeds Rhinos annual awards on Monday, justifying why the side coaxed her to return to the Netball Super League in the United Kingdom.
The former Manchester Thunder player won the Rhinos Coaches’ award and was also voted Player’s Player of the Year to crown a memorable return to the league.
The awards summed up her return to the league after spending a season at Central Pulse in New Zealand, where she was not at her best.
However, Mvula was on cloud nine when she won the awards at Leeds Rhinos Rugby Stadium.
The Blue Eagles Sisters product attributed the awards to teammates and coaching staff support.

“I could not have achieved this on my own but teammates were crucial and supportive; so was the coaching staff. I thank all of them for the support,” Mvula said.
Mvula said she would have loved it if the side had finished among the top four teams.
“Otherwise, we are heading in the right direction,” she said.
Last season, Rhinos finished the 10-member league on position seven with 14 points from 18 matches while this season the side is on position five with 21 points from 16 matches.

Netball analyst Dalitso Chinyama congratulated the player and advised her to maintain the form during national team assignments.
“She made an impact and should perform like that in Malawi Queens matches,” Chinyama said.
Mvula played for Thunder from 2020 to 2022 before joining New Zealand side Pulse in 2023. She returned to the Netball Super League before the start of the season.
