TO TRADE SHOTS—KB and Bullets

Kamuzu Barracks coach Alick Chirwa believes he has assembled enough artillery to break the jinx against TNM Super League defending champions FCB Nyasa Bullets at Civo Stadium this afternoon.

The odds are stacked against KB soldiers having failed to beat Bullets in the last five matches in all competitions.

Ahead of the match, Chirwa said revenge is on their mission.

“The players are in a good mood. I believe if they play according to our strength, we will get a positive result. We are ready for them,’’ he said.

Last season, Bullets beat KB 1-0 in the first round at the same venue but shared the spoils in the second round after a 1-1 stalemate at Kamuzu Stadium.

In 2021, Bullets did a double over the soldiers following 3-1 victory at Kamuzu Stadium before a 3-0 win at Civo Stadium.

KB last defeated Bullets 1-0 in the league in 2019 but lost the return fixture 2-0 in Blantyre.

Straight from their 2-1 victory over Karonga United in the FDH Bank Cup, the soldiers might be in high spirits this afternoon.

On the other hand, Bullets started their FDH Bank Cup title defence on a high following a 4-0 win over Ndirande Stars.

However, fatigue might take its toll on the soldiers as they arrived yesterday from Karonga.

The two sides are separated by nine points. Bullets are on second position with 20 points from nine matches whereas KB are eighth with 11 points from the same number of matches.

Bullets have struggled on the road this season as they have only beaten Extreme 1-0 at Civo Stadium but drew against Silver Strikers and Civil Service United by 1-1 margins and also lost 1-0 Chitipa United.

Bullets Coach Kalisto Pasuwa said his side has been affected by injuries to some of the players.

“We need a positive approach against KB. But in football, we have to expect three results, win, lose and draw. We play our game and see where we will finish at the end of the season,’’ Pasuwa said.

Bullets can reclaim top spot this afternoon with a victory against KB.

However, Silver will be in action tomorrow against Karonga at Bingu National Stadium.

In other matches today, Red Lions host Civil at Balaka Stadium whereas Moyale Barracks will face Mighty Tigers at Mzuzu Stadium. Mafco will meet Blue Eagles at Chitowe Stadium whereas Chitipa will meet Bangwe All Stars at Karonga Stadium.
