Silver Strikers have intensified beefing up the squad ahead of the 2024 season, after roping in their former attacker Binwel Katinji from Civil Service United and Chitipa United goalkeeper George Chikooka.
The Central Bankers unveiled Katinji and Chikooka Monday at the team’s base in Area 47, Lilongwe.
The two have joined Christopher Gototo, MacDonald Lameck (from Blue Eagles) and Charles Chipala (Dedza Dynamos), who recently moved to Silver during the offseason break.
Silver Chief Executive Officer Patrick Chimimba said Katinji has signed a two-year deal while Chikooka has penned a three-year contract with the Bankers.
“We are very excited to welcome these players in our camp. We want to build a squad that will bring us fruits. The pair will bring experience and quality. The two have arrived following recommendations from our coach [Peter Mponda],” Chimimba said.

Katinji first joined Silver in 2016 but left the side in 2018 to join Eswatini side Malanti Chiefs before returning home to join Civil.
On his return, Katinji said he did not hesitate to rejoin the Area 47 side as he felt he had not completed his mission.
“I am delighted to return to Silver as I think I have an unfinished project that I want to fulfill. I understand very well what it requires to be here and I will work hard and to do well”, said Katinji.
Last season, Katinji scored 11 goals at Civil, three shy of the 2023 TNM Super League top goal scorer Clement Nyondo, formerly of Dedza Dynamos now a Mighty Mukuru Wanderers player.

Meanwhile, Chikooka, who was one clean-sheet away from equalling the goalkeeper with the most clean-sheets (13) last season, said he was glad to sign for Silver.
“I am happy to have joined Silver Strikers. They are a big team and every player would want to join them. I believe I will play my part to fight for success and honours. This move has been my dream all along,” he said.
