Youthful artist Kellie Divine Njuchi on Saturday launched her debut Extended Playlist (EP) titled The Queen, which attracted a huge audience at Glalle Garden in Lilongwe.
Being her debut launch, which featured several acts, the artist acknowledged that she was afraid, especially of how the show would pan out having invested a lot of money.
People, however, showed up for the launch, which was dominated by fellow young people.
Her eight-track EP, which includes a bonus, has seen her working with a number of producers and they include Martin Anjelz and Druw, who produced ‘Settle’ and ‘Ngozi’, respectively.
The EP has seen her tapping into a number of genres as one way of reaching out to everyone and she has not avoided amapiano.
“I am excited to give people this EP. There is just so much in this EP and everyone will find what they love. This is just the beginning because, now, I am looking at producing an album but that will be next year,” she said.
Other songs in the EP include ‘Tell Me’, ‘Ndakukondetsetsa,’ ‘Lonely,’ ‘Bata’ and ‘Tilikumhanya’, which features Black Warrior from Zimbabwe.
She said the huge turnout on Saturday during the launch, which run under the theme ‘Youth Empowerment’, was evidence that young people support each other.
“I am a youth and this is why I went for the ‘Youth Empowerment’ theme. It was all about encouraging young people to not be afraid to take a step, provided they stay focused and work hard. Most of the work at the launch was done by young people,” she said.
Kellie Divine also admitted that female artists are underrated.
“This narrative, where female artists are deemed not effective needs to change. We are capable of bringing out the best and this is why young people came out for the EP,” she said.
Next up on her plans are to shoot videos for the songs in the EP.
“I would have loved to take the launch to Mzuzu and Blantyre but I have to hold it for now. This will also depend on resources; otherwise, I would like to thank all those, who believed in me and gave me support,” she said.
Inspired by Chizmo Njuchi and Eli Njuci, Kellie Divine said she will have the EP on all online platforms as part of reaching out to the world and that she was also selling it through CDs and flash disks.
