All Malawian citizens who wish to travel to Kenya will not require a visa; instead, they will be applying for a Kenya Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) document.
This means they will not be required to pay the processing fee of $30.

A letter signed by the Malawi High Commissioner to Kenya Calista Mutharika and chairperson for the Association of Malawians in Kenya indicates that this follows engagement between officials of the two countries.
This means that while Malawian citizens traveling to Kenya will still complete the ETA online application on www.evisa.gov.ke, they will be exempted from paying money.
“I would like to request everyone’s understanding that the ETA Gratis is a commendable action by Kenya. The filling of the online ETA form is a requirement for Kenya for their own national and domestic needs, which should not be a challenge for all of us,” Mutharika said.

She said this applies to all Malawians living, working and studying in Kenya.
On December 12 2023, during his national address at the 60th Jamhuri Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi, Kenyan President William Ruto announced that beginning January 2024, Kenya would be a visa-free country, describing Kenya as the historic home of humanity.
“It shall no longer be necessary for any person from any corner of the globe to carry the burden of applying for a visa to come to Kenya,” Ruto said
He reiterated that it is not fair to ask visitors “returning home’’ for a visa.
