President Lazarus Chakwera has appointed Paul Valentino Phiri as the new Commander of the Malawi Defence Force (MDF), replacing Vincent Nundwe.
A statement, which Secretary to the Office of the President and Cabinet Colleen Zamba has signed, indicates that Chakwera has since promoted Phiri to the rank of general with immediate effect.
Nundwe was reinstated to the position when Chakwera won the June 23 2020 presidential election.
