President Lazarus Chakwera has called on Malawians to remain hopeful of better times as there are many partners that are willing to assist the country out of the challenges it is facing.
Chakwera made the remarks Friday at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe on his return from South Africa where he attended the Brics Summit.
The President arrived in South Africa through Angola where he attended a Sadc Summit last week.
“It is important that we should all remain optimistic because there are many partners that are wishing us to recover from the challenges we are facing.
“What we need to do is for us to work hard so that we can meet our goals,” he said.

Chakwera also disclosed that Chinese president, Xi Jinping, has invited him to China where they are expected to continue discussions on development issues.
Chakwera held a bilateral meeting with the Chinese president on the sidelines of the 15th Brics Plus Outreach Summit where they discussed the bilateral partnership to spur rapid infrastructural development and macroeconomic stability.
“He has extended an invitation; he has told our officials to work on that so that I could visit the Chinese people officially and have further discussions,” he said.
He said China is committed to the China – Africa relations in trade and infrastructure development, among others.

About the Sadc Summit, Chakwera described it as successful.
He said the meeting gave him an opportunity to hold discussions with other leader in the region bordering on human and financial capital, trade and industrialisation.
“During the Sadc meeting I took an advantage to hold talks with my colleagues and find out what is happening in their countries which we can do here,” he said.
Chakwera left the country on August 16, 2023.
