Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Commercial and Marketing Director Limbani Matola has kept a tight lid on his next destination after announcing his departure from the national football governing body, ending an eight-year romance.
Matola only said he was excited to have been part of the secretariat that transformed Fam through, among other things, wooing corporate support.
“As I look back, I am glad to say I will be leaving Fam a happier person. Without any doubt, Fam is now an improved and solid corporate institution which everyone in Malawi is ready and willing to associate with.
“You may wish to know that when I joined Fam, I was called and cautioned by close family members, friends and colleagues who counseled me to reverse the decision because, in their wisdom and knowledge then, Fam was not close to being a good place for me to call my workplace. The corporate reputation at that time was not attractive,” Matola said.
He, however, said with the executive committee’s guidance and leadership from general secretary Alfred Gunda, all stakeholders worked together to turn around the association’s brand image and corporate profile.
“Today, Fam is a model of a well-governed and marketed sports institution not only in Malawi, but across Africa and beyond,” Matola said.
He also hailed the media and other stakeholders for their support during his time at the country’s football governing body.
“I would like to thank each and every stakeholder in the game for being part of my great and close family for the past eight years. Since I joined Fam on 1st December 2015, I have constantly enjoyed generous and outpouring love and support from all of you at both personal and corporate level.
“You have been amazing and wonderful. I have learnt a lot from each one of you. You counseled and encouraged me. You supported and cheered me on. You challenged me. I am grateful to say you have made me a better version than I was eight years ago,” he said.
