After their exploits at the MTN Bushfire Festival in eSwatini recently, Madalitso Band, the duo of Yobu Maligwa and Yosefe Kalekeni, now dates Europe next month with over 50 gigs lined up.
The group’s international manager Neil Nayar, who is also a musician, said yesterday that they will depart the country on July 11 2024.
“The first show is in Germany on July 13. Then from 17 July to 9 August, we have 21 shows in the United Kingdom starting in Glasgow and moving to the south. We have festivals and gigs,” Nayar said.
He said from August 9 to September 22, they will hold close to 30 shows in France, Italy and Switzerland.
“So, the total should be 52. It is another busy time for Madalitso Band but it is all about raising Malawi’s flag through authentic music. This is the group’s seventh European outing,” Nayar said.

“We will come back on 23rd September 2024 and then on 23rd October 2024 we will go back to the United Kingdom for Womex, one of the big festivals in the world,” Nayar added.
Maligwa, who plays the onestringed traditional bass guitar known as babatoni, said they are looking forward to another great time in Europe.
“We are always ready and it is all about selling Malawi. In some shows, we benefit more while in others, it is about creating opportunities but our lives have changed a lot; we are not where we used to be,” the lead vocalist, who has built a good house, said.
Kalekeni, who plays the acoustic guitar and foot drum, said through the international outings, he has built a house and also runs businesses.
