The Malawi Under-20 Women’s National Football Team Coach Maggie Chombo-Sadik has requested the Football Association of Malawi (Fam) to arrange friendly matches for her charges.
Chombo-Sadik said this after the Young Scorchers booked a spot in the 4th and final round of the 2026 Fifa U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
The Young Scorchers advanced to the final round following a 6-2 victory over Guinea Bissau on aggregate.
Malawi beat Guinea Bissau 5-1 at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday after a 1-1 stalemate in the first leg.
The Young Scorchers will face Nigeria in the final round of the qualifiers after the latter defeated Senegal 3-1 on aggregate.

Chombo-Sadik said there was a need to prepare well for the upcoming matches against the Young Falcons.
“We need to have enough time to prepare for the matches. We need to keep the girls busy. They should be in camp for at least one week every month before the matches against Nigeria. If possible, we can play one friendly match before the final round of the qualifiers,” Chombo said.
The Young Scorchers will start the fixture away on May 3, 2026 before hosting the Young Falcons five days later.
Fam President Fleetwood Haiya said the girls would get enough support ahead of the crucial tie against Nigeria.

“I visited the Young Scorchers camp after the match to motivate and encourage the girls for the task ahead. We are committed to ensuring that the team receives thorough and proper preparations ahead of the final round of the Fifa U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifier against Nigeria.
“We will continue transforming the game and leave no stone unturned in our pursuit of excellence. We now shift focus to the next round against Nigeria. The journey continues and we are ready for the challenge ahead. This progress aligns with our Strategic Plan to become a force to reckon with in Africa. The girls have shown character and growth by overcoming Central African Republic, South Sudan, and Guinea-Bissau, and we remain firmly on course under our Transformation Agenda,” Haiya said.
Fatima Lali scored a brace for Malawi whereas Alinafe Milanzi, Mayamiko Mkandawire and Victoria Mkwala scored a goal each.
Ramarana Bali scored for Guinea-Bissau.
The winner between Malawi and Nigeria will qualify for this year’s Fifa U-20 Women’s World Cup finals in Poland.
Malawi have never qualified for the finals.
