The Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has secured a K40 million sponsorship package from the Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Authority (Magla) to fund the Goal and Save of the Month awards in the FDH Bank Premiership.
The agreement was signed in Blantyre yesterday, with the national gaming regulatory body committing the funds to run the two monthly awards throughout the 2026-27 season.
Magla Director General Muchanankhwaye Mpuluka said the partnership served a dual purpose— celebrating football excellence while championing responsible gambling.
“We have committed K40 million into the league to sponsor the Goal and Save of the Month awards. This partnership gives us an opportunity to recognise the outstanding performance of Malawians in football while advancing public awareness on [the issue of] responsible gambling,” Mpuluka said.
He said football’s broad reach made it an ideal platform for the authority’s messaging.

Mpuluka also framed the investment as a contribution to youth development efforts.
Sulom Vice President Ronald Chiwaula welcomed the deal.
“We are proud that Magla has chosen to recognise and reward our players throughout the 2026- 27 season. We are also grateful to our main sponsors, FDH Bank, for allowing us to bring additional partners on board,” Chiwaula said.
He said Sulom believed that the new awards would have a transformative effect on how players approach the game.

The winner of the goal and save of the month will get K1 million each while K10 million is channelled into administration, according to the details announced by the league’s governing body.
The FDH Bank Premiership is Malawi’s top-flight football division and one of the most watched sporting competitions in the country.
