The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has urged industry players to always comply with tax payment requirements, saying domestic revenue generation remains a key tool for sustaining the government’s operations.
MRA Commissioner General John Bizwick said amplification of government revenue carries the potential to invigorate economic growth through the financing of essential infrastructure projects, attracting foreign investments and creating job opportunities.
He was speaking yesterday in Blantyre when Illovo Sugar Malawi made a symbolic contribution of its corporate tax.
“The positive impact of heightened revenue includes the enhancement of healthcare facilities, improved access to quality education, and the fortification of social safety nets, all of which ultimately improve the lives of the citizen,” Bizwick said.

Bizwick encouraged corporate entities to fulfill their tax obligations diligently and with ethical responsibility.
Such a commitment, he argued, contributes substantially to the financial stability and governance of the country.
“As we move forward, let us remember that our collective efforts are instrumental in shaping the future of our beloved nation,” he said.
Illovo Sugar Malawi’s corporate tax contribution stood at K16.6 billion.

Bizwick commended Illovo Sugar Malawi for what he called voluntary and transparent tax payment.
Illovo Sugar Malawi Managing Director Lekani Katandula affirmed the company’s unwavering commitment to contributing towards national economic development.
“We are actively playing our part in cultivating a thriving Malawian community,” Katandula said.
