The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has said its Block Management System (BMS) which it introduced in 2021 has attracted about 5,400 new tax payers within two years.
This was revealed Thursday in Blantyre at the beginning of a two-day media training the authority has organised.
MRA Head of Corporate Affairs Steven Kapoloma said more taxpayers would be brought into the tax net.
He added that the revenue collection body will expand use of the system to other cities, districts and municipalities.
“Going forward, the BMS will be a tool that will be able to manage micro, small and medium taxpayers because we will be able to provide them with the much needed information and address their needs at their doorstep,” Kapoloma said.

He said the media plays a vital role in disseminating information to the masses.
He said there is always the need for journalists to be well informed if they are to disseminate the information efficiently.
One of the journalists who attended the training, Benadetta Mia of MIJ FM Radio applauded the authority for the training.
“I have learnt a lot and this is important because we communicate to people about taxes on a daily basis and we need to be well aware of what we are communicating,” Mia said.
