The counter closed at K129.03 per share, maintaining relative stability throughout the week with minimal price movement.
PCL plc stocks show some volatility, trading at between K2, 875.02 and K3, 802.22 before closing at the upper end of that range.
Despite the smaller volume of 28,362 shares traded, PCL plc transactions totalled K95.5 million.
FMB Capital Holdings plc maintained its position as one of the premium-priced stocks on the exchange, closing at K1,244 after trading at as high as K1,292 earlier in the week. The counter saw K81.1 million worth of shares traded.
Only two counters, Old Mutual plc and Sunbird Tourism plc, recorded no trading activity during the week, indicating limited investor interest or potential liquidity constraints in these sectors.
The MSE’s total market capitalisation stands at approximately K16 trillion, with banking and telecommunications sectors constituting the largest segments of the exchange.
Stockbrokers Malawi Limited Equity and Stock Market Analyst Kondwani Makwakwa said such a performance stemmed from increased investor participation.
“This reflects renewed confidence in the equity market. If macroeconomic conditions remain stable—particularly avoiding risks such as currency depreciation—the outlook for the year is positive.
“However, half-year results will be key in determining if current valuations are justified, as some stocks may be overpriced and a correction is possible,” Makwakwa said.
