President Lazarus Chakwera arrived in Abuja, Nigeria, Tuesday.
He is expected to court support and investment for the Malawi’s Agriculture, Tourism and Mining sectors (ATM) Strategy and other aspects of development.
Chakwera, who arrived in Abuja in the afternoon, said he would, on the sidelines of the meeting, also be meeting world leaders to discuss issues of development and Malawi’s growth.
“I will join fellow African and Caribbean Heads of State and Government, development partners and global financial thought leaders at the 32nd annual meetings of the African Export-Import Bank (Afrexim Bank).

“During the sessions, I will hold bilateral talks with world leaders to forge deeper partnerships in priority sectors within Malawi’s development agenda namely agriculture, tourism and mining together with other enabling sectors like infrastructure and digital innovation,” Chakwera said.
Chakwera added that the series of meetings, convened under the theme ‘Building The Future on Decades of Resilience’, emboldened Malawi’s stance to expand its strategic reach within the framework of continental trade and investment.
The meetings are expected to take place from Wednesday to Friday.
Also speaking to journalists, Secretary for Trade and Industry Christina Zakeyu described the meeting as crucial for Malawi, saying Malawi would have an opportunity to discuss issues of growth and development strides made with the bank and other countries.

“As you are aware, we are implementing the Special Economic Zones programme that was launched last year. Afreximbank helped us identify a developer; as such, they are a good partner of Malawi.
“On top of that, there will be other stakeholders here attending the meeting and we are excited to see the President leading the Malawi delegation in this meeting,” Zakeyu said.
The Afreximbank Annual Meeting is expected to reflect, renew and reinforce the courageous and resilient advances Afreximbank has made through the years in light of the challenges and opportunities the Africa continent faces.
The meeting will also look back and reflect on the bank’s achievements and its leadership.
