TNM Super League Farmers man-of-the-match award sponsor AECI, formerly known as Farmers Organization Limited, has called for fairness when naming winners during matches.
AECI made the call during a meeting with Super League of Malawi (Sulom) officials at the former’s offices in Makata Industrial Area, Blantyre, where, among other things, the two parties discussed visibility of the Farmers Man-of-the-Match award at the end of Super League matches.
Addressing the media, AECI Marketing Manager Ronald Chilumpha said there was an outcry from some sectors in the game on how Sulom selects players for the award.
Chilumpha said he believes fairness will be prevailing when awarding the outstanding player so that the football fraternity appreciates the award’s role.
“In the first place, we would like to commend the restructuring that has taken place at Sulom and the way the league has been transformed. As an interested party, we thought it right to meet and review how the selection of players for man-of-the-match awards had been like in the first round. So we are hopeful that players will be awarded justly and fairly according to their contribution in the field of play,” he said.

On the brand visibility, Chilumpha challenged Sulom to ensure that there is a win-win situation for both parties.
“We just want to see Farmers Man-of-the- Match award being given prominence in all media platforms during matches. On our part, we assure that we will increase sponsorship of the award next season,” he said.
Sulom General Secretary Williams Banda said they will work on the concerns.
“We will work towards ensuring that both parties are benefiting from this deal. Indeed there have been some challenges regarding selection of winners for the man of the match award but we will revisit the criteria used in coming up with the winner.

“It was a fruitful meeting and we will do everything possible to ensure that the issues raised are taken into consideration. We do not want to point fingers at those who helped us in selecting players for the award but we will just do our best to be as professional as we can,” Banda said.
Recently there was a debate on how Blue Eagles attacker Richard Rapson won the Farmers Man of the Match award after his side lost 1-0 to Moyale Barracks.
