Manyasa Band, which used to jam with iconic musician Mtebeti Wambali Mkandawire, has resurfaced and is geared to preserve the fallen legend’s legacy.
The band, that released a jazz collection titled Up and Down the Shire with Wambali, takes the first step in its journey of musical performances with a concert tomorrow night at Mibawa Multipurpose Hall in Blantyre.
Christened Wambali’s Music with Manyasa Band, the concert, according, to Vitumbiko Mumba who used to manage Wambali, is an evening of music and celebration that promises nothing but a memorable outing filled with a top performance.
Mumba said Manyasa Band will take to the stage to showcase extraordinary music and pay tribute to Wambali, who died on January 31 2021.
“This event is an opportunity to enjoy an enchanting blend of jazz melodies and the captivating essence of Wambali’s music,” he said.
Mumba said the concert will also seek to celebrate the power of music to create connections and inspire creativity.
“We have curated an extraordinary evening for people’s enjoyment, complete with delightful refreshments and an ambience that truly captures the spirit of Mte Wambali Mkandawire,” he said.
Some of the members of Manyasa Band are Dan Sibale (saxophone), Samuel Mkandawire (piano, organ and vocals), Godfrey Mbizi (bass guitar), Collen Ali (electric guitar and vocals), Thatcher Ng’oma (classic guitar), Eric Mwalwanda (drums), Super DT (percussion and vocals), Mathews Mphande (trumpet and vocals) and Vita Chirwa (strings, bass, brass, marimbas and vocals).
Super DT has since said that they are ready to keep people entertained with Wambali’s songs.
Manyasa Band’s performance comes barely a month after Wambali’s tombstone was unveiled in Lilongwe.
