The second edition of the memorial show for renowned rapper Martse, real name Martin Nkhata, took place at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday, attracting a huge audience which included wife to Vice President Mary Chilima.
The memorial saw performances from several musicians including DJs.
Hosted by Annie Matumbi, some of the artists who performed at the memorial included Fredokiss, Lulu, Veda Njuchi, Beanca, Dan Lu, Provoice and Manache.
More budding artists were also given the platform at the event.
In trying to finish the event in good time, organisers were strict on time and this led to artists offering short performances, which disappointed fans.
There were also power challenges during the event, which delayed the show.
In celebrating Martse, some people wore T-shirts of ‘Too Ghetto Too Gutter’, a popular Martse signature.
Martse Foundation Board Member Uchizi Nkhata described the memorial as a success and that it is aimed at remembering and honouring Martse for his contribution to the music industry as well as raising funds for a desk initiative, which the artist hatched before his death on May 23 2022.
“Through the memorial, we want to sustain Martse’s vision and impact by supporting education initiatives,” Uchizi said.
The foundation has previously donated desks to Cape Maclear Primary School in Mangochi and Chambu Primary School in Lilongwe and this time they want to reach out to the Northern Region.
Beanca said this was the biggest event in the capital city on the day and that it was important to remember Martse.
“Everything went well although there were power challenges,” she said.
The first memorial show took place last year at Cape Maclear in Mangochi
Martse collaborated with several artists and some of his songs include ‘Go Deeper’, ‘Adidas’ and ‘Mwano’.
