Football Legends Association (FLA) has signed a partnership with Medhealth for medical cover for its registered members.
The tailor-made scheme is worth K9 million for a period of one year.
Medhealth Marketing and Sales Manager Maya Kafwamba said through the agreement, the football legends and retired footballers will have 100 percent medical cover.
“We are trying to eliminate the stress the Legends members go through when they fall sick,” Kafwamba said.

Through the agreement, FLA members would be able to access medical services at some of the well-established hospitals and clinics.
On top of that, Medhealth will be providing K850, 000 as a funeral cover for each member of the legends body.
On his part, FLA Board Chairperson Jim Kalua hailed the partnership.
“We are very happy that we have realised our dream of providing medical cover to our legends and retired football players. We are creating a solid foundation for footballers, by the time they will retire, they have a platform which is already established,” Kalua said.

The launch of the medical cover comes a few weeks after the match between Malawi legends and their Zambian counterpart grossed K16.8 million at Bingu National Stadium.
Director of Sports in the Ministry of Youth and Sports Jameson Ndalama applauded the legends body for its effort to improve the welfare of its members.
“We are happy that the legends body has reached this stage. We appeal to other sports associations to emulate the gesture and we are ready to support them,” Ndalama said.
Furthermore, Ndalama said government is in the process of formulating a welfare policy for sports legends.
“We are looking for medical cover for all sports associations. We are also going to look at how they are performing and roll out the project to all sporting codes,” he said.
Last year, the ministry announced the formulation of a welfare policy for retired sports personalities.
