FCB Nyasa Big Bullets are set to continue enduring life without influential midfielder Mike Mkwate who has undergone another operation at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.
Mkwate made a return to Bullets from South African side Polokwane City FC some eight months ago and made a few appearances before picking up a serious injury during the Castel Cup launch match between Bullets and Silver on June 17.
The slippery player’s close relative Ester said Mkwate continues to endure great pain.
“Mike underwent another operation on Sunday after developing some more complications on his injured leg. The doctor recommended the second operation after examining him,” she said.
Bullets Chief Administration Officer Albert Chigoga said Mkwate’s injured leg developed a deformity, hence the need for the second surgery.
“The injured leg developed a deformity, so our doctors recommended that Mike should undergo another operation. He has been successfully operated on and we expect him to be out for some more months. We wish him well as he recuperates,” Chigoga said.
Bullets Director of Supporters Stone Mwamadi expressed concern with the development and called on the team’s fans to find time to cheer the player.
“The supporters have been cheering Mkwate for the past six months and I am calling upon them to continue with this gesture. The culture at Bullets is that we check on each during such situations.
“We believe in the need to cheer up any member of our family who gets hospitalized. We always find time to go and cheer him or her up with some gifts and even money. So in the case of Mkwate, his family has been acknowledging our support from time to time. We are all praying for his quick recovery,” Mwamadi said.
