Released Mighty Mukuru Wanderers centre back Miracle Gabeya has expressed hope about clinching a deal with the Mozambique champions UD Songo.
Gabeya was spotted training with UD Songo players after being released by Wanderers on Monday together with Chiukepo Msowoya, Adeleke Kalaole and Mathews Masamba.
The former FCB Nyasa Big Bullets stalwart said he went to the neighbouring country on invitation from Songo’s newly appointed mentor Mark Harrison.
This could be a reunion between the two as they worked together at Wanderers in the 2023 season.
Gabeya said he is working hard to impress.
“I believe the coach liked something about me. This could be the reason I was asked to come and attend trials at this club. When the call came, I did not hesitate because all along I have been looking forward to the opportunity of playing football outside Malawi.
“For now I will not say much about this until I sign a contract here. I will definitely come back to say more once the deal materializes,” he said on the line from Tete where Songo are based.
This would not be the first time for the on-and-off Flames defender to undergo trials outside the country as in 2018 and 2019 he was invited for the same at South African giants Kaizer Chiefs but he did not make it.
Should Gabeya sign for Songo, he would join Flames captain John ‘CJ’ Banda, Yamikani Chester, Lloyd Njaliwa and Chikoti Chirwa who are also plying their trade in the Portuguese-speaking country.
