By Praise Majawa:

The Super League of Malawi (Sulom) is facing growing pressure to act decisively on misconduct as disciplinary cases continue to pile up in the FDH Bank Premiership, with some of the country’s biggest clubs repeatedly finding themselves in the spotlight.

The latest incident occurred on

Published Saturday at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe City, when a suspected Silver Strikers supporter invaded the pitch during the Central Bankers’ match against Mighty Wanderers and poured an unknown liquid near the goalposts.

The ‘supporter’ jumped over the perimeter fence with assistance from fellow supporters, while security personnel failed to apprehend him.

The incident raised fresh concerns about stadium security and crowd control, coming on a day Silver suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Wanderers.

The episode adds to the growing list of disciplinary concerns facing Sulom, which is yet to deliver a verdict on the misconduct case involving Creck Sporting Club and Ekhaya Football Club following their first-round encounter at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe City on August 22, 2026.

The match descended into violence after officials exchanged blows following a disagreement over a refereeing decision.

Sulom subsequently asked the two clubs to submit reports on September 11, and the teams complied. However, the absence of a verdict has raised questions about the pace of disciplinary proceedings and the effectiveness of measures intended to deter similar incidents.

Last week, Sulom’s disciplinary committee fined the Central Bankers K4 million for misconduct during their match against Karonga United on July 19, 2026.

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have also been fined K3.5 million this season over the misconduct of their supporters during a match against Ekhaya Football Club at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre City.

Sulom Vice General Secretary Donnex Chilonga has described rising cases of supporter misconduct as unfortunate.

“It is unfortunate that ugly cases of fan misconduct are slowly rising up. As you know, Sulom does not condone any misconduct by supporters, officials, players [and others] during games,” Chilonga said.

On the Creck Sporting Club and Ekhaya Football Club case, Chilonga said the matter would be resolved.

“Cases are handled one at a time. Be assured that this case, too, shall be disposed of once we finalise everything,” he said.

Football analyst Mike Ndala has called on Sulom to expedite its rulings, arguing that disciplinary matters need to be concluded promptly to safeguard the integrity of the competition.

“Sulom needs to be quick in making its rulings. Delays can undermine discipline because clubs and supporters need to see that misconduct has consequences,” Ndala said.
