Construction of M’mbelwa Stadium in Mzimba District is expected to be completed in December this year.
Manobec Construction Company Project Manager Victor Msowoya told Times Sport that there has been a delay due to the rise in the cost of materials.
“In records, the projection at the moment is December, again all things being equal. Further to that, there have been some variations incorporated in the project, which necessitated seeking a fresh ‘No Objection’ from the government,” Msowoya said.
The development comes after some people in the district expressed concern over delays to complete the project.

M’mbelwa District Council spokesperson Joel Phiri said the project has delayed as the contractor requires extra funds to complete it.
“About K3.5 billion has already been spent on the project but due to some factors, the project needs more money,” Phiri said.
M’mbelwa District Council is waiting for permission from the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority to approve an additional K2 billion to complete the project.
Meanwhile, Mzimba United Coach Steve Nkwinika has said delays in completing the project are “a huge setback” to teams in the district.

“Once completed, teams will be able to generate resources through gate revenue,” Nkwinika said.
Construction of the facility started in 2018 and, once completed, it will have a 25-seater capacity.
